2nd European Congress - “The European City and its Heritage – Historical Layers of the European City“
8.-9. December 2016 | Berlin Congress Center, Alexanderstraße 11, 10178 Berlin
Dear Sir or Madam,
The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety will be hosting the 2nd European Congress “The European City and its Heritage” on the topic of “Historical Faces of the European City” in Berlin on 8 and 9 December 2016.
On behalf of the German Building Ministry we would like to invite you to take part in this event.
Compact urban structures, historical buildings from different eras and a vibrant functional diversity are features that make European cities unique. The ever changing needs and requirements to be met by cities across the centuries have furnished our cities with a wide range of buildings and urban structures. This superimposition and parallel evolution of architectural developments has given rise to different layers of history which can still be seen today in every European city.
The 2nd European Congress “The European City and its Heritage” will focus on opportunities and possibilities for using constructional and social layers of history as starting points for future-oriented urban development. Expanding on the first European Congress in 2011, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety is continuing the Europe-wide discourse on holistic urban development and the protection of urban architectural heritage. Stakeholders from urban planning, architecture, heritage conservation, culture, the scientific sector and administrations and the public from all over Europe are invited to take part in this event. A number of formats such as plenary presentations, arena discussions and panel discussions will provide a broad range of opportunities to learn, discuss and exchange views.
