In order to improve planning education – and in more general terms the quality of our pedagogy, as a result of research and teaching activities – in a time of great and quick changes at the global scale, AESOP has selected the topic "Enhancing International Cooperation in a Connected and Divided World" and also widened the name of our traditional event by adding Plaza for Excellence in Education. The aim of such an initiative is to have a real as well as metaphorical ‘plaza’ (that is, a place that is open to freely discussion and confrontation) for exchange experiences and enhance international cooperation.

An international as well as reflexive approach to these issues would highlight the plural qualities of our teaching programmes in order to enhance, improve and support planning curricula in a rapidly changing world, which is connected in a global net of cooperation activities and exchanges, but which is also divided under several aspects. When we say ‘plural qualities’, we refer to the plurality of cultures, traditions and institutional frameworks of planning education: it is not a novelty, but in a time of quick (and often unforeseeable) changes, global networks and great uncertainties, this issue has to be re-considered with new approaches and further reflections, in order to set up an agenda for our educational activities.

AESOP warmly encourages colleagues involved in planning education to come to Madrid and and join Plaza for Excellence in Education to discuss main problems and challenges for planning education across Europe.
