Walk21 Vienna 2015 “stepping ahead”
Four more months until the City of Vienna will host the world’s leading conference on walking, quality of life and urban development.
The Walk21 Vienna conference with the title “stepping ahead” will take place from 20 to 23 October in the Austrian capital.
230 confirmed experts from 39 countries will meet more than 700 participants from all over the world for seminars, workshops and discussions at Vienna City Hall.

The Walk21 conference program
The Walk21 conference, with the title “stepping ahead”, will bring together experts from the fields of urban planning and development, politics, science, health care, architecture, interest groups and NGOs and 700 participants from all over the world. They will meet in Vienna to discuss recent developments in pedestrian traffic and planning and design for walkable urban spaces.

The list of confirmed plenary speakers for Walk21 Vienna includes:
Raúl Krauthausen, activist and consultant for inclusion and accessibility, Charles Montgomery, author and urbanist from Canada, Peatónito, the pedestrian activist superhero from Mexico, Kristian Skovbakke Villadsen of Gehl Architects in Copenhagen, Geetam Tiwari, professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Simon Ng, Director of the NGO Civic Exchange in Hong Kong, and Andreja Kodrin, Cabinet Member of EU Commissioner Violeta Bulc, as well as Austrian experts Eugene Quinn from “space and place” and Harald Frey from the Vienna University of Technology.
The Walk21 conference series
The Walk21 conference series is an international series of meetings that aims to establish walking firmly in the public awareness. The Walk21 conferences are initiated and commissioned by the non-profit organisation Walk21, which champions the promotion of walking worldwide.
Vienna will host the 16th Walk2 conference assembling participants from many disciplines to share their know-how about recent developments in the promotion of walking and the design of public urban spaces, to create networks, and to foster the dialogue between science, civil society and public administration.
Before Vienna, the Walk21 conference has been hosted by cities such as Sydney, Munich, London, New York, Copenhagen, Zurich, Barcelona, Melbourne, Vancouver and Mexico City.
