Description

the X Conference entitled Soil and Water Bionengineering in the Mediterranean ecoregion will take place in Madrid 21-23 November 2018.

Soil and water bioengineering comprises a series of techniques involving the use of plants or cut plant material, alone or in combination with inert materials, as a construction element within the field of environmental restoration. Bioengineering is used in all areas of civil engineering, especially in the scope of slope and river bank stabilization, and erosion control. The name comes from the German word ‘Ingenieurbiologie’ and, in Spanish it is translated as landscape bioengineering.

Given the use of living material, soil and water bioengineering techniques must be adaptedto the Mediteranean ecoregion particularities. With the aim of giving answer to this situation, the Erasmus plus ECOMED project “Specialisation Process for the Soil and Water Bioengineering sector in the Mediterranean Environment” was launched. This project is led by the UPM and its consortium comprises a total of 14 partners (7 universities and 7 companies) from 7 European countries. This initiative will fosterthe specialization processand the generation oflong term alliances and new dynamics in the soil and water bioengineering sector.
